We would consider this blog post to be one of the most insightful! A look into the television psyche of our team and their top recommendations to binge watch in 2022 so far.
- Selling Sunset
Think killer heels, voluminous blow dries and glamorous work attire! Elite property agents in LA at The Oppenheim Group don’t just sell homes, but the luxurious lifestyle to filthy rich buyers. It’s a competitive industry which comes with major drama. Our MD, Katie says: “I hate the bitchiness, but love the deals in high heels!” Watch the trailer below to see if it’s your bag.
2. Emily in Paris
Another recommendation from Katie, proving just how extravagant a marketing campaign can really get! Whilst we won’t be jetting off to Paris any time soon, we can get our kicks from Emily who is a Chicago Marketing Executive. She lands a dream job in Paris and the show follows her trials and tribulations in work, friendships, romance and everything in between. It’s also one for the fashion lovers among us, some of the dresses… ooh lala!
3. The Witcher
A little bit of fantasy now, recommended by both our Technical Project Manager, Tom and Marketing & Administration Manager, Camille. Based on the book series by Polish writer, Andrzej Sapkowsi, it’s set in a medieval inspired land known as ‘The Continent’ and explores the destined legend of Geralt of Rivia (a monster hunter) and Princess Ciri. Think lots of sword training and jumpy monster moments. Camille says: “It definitely lived up to the hype!”
4. Euphoria
Don’t have Netflix? Or fancy a bit of a change? Camille recommends Euphoria which you can watch on Amazon Prime or Now TV. An American teen drama follows a group of high school students who struggle with drugs, love, social media and money problems as they form their identities. The series focuses on recovering addict, Rue and new-in-town, Jules. Camille says: “It tackles critical Gen Z issues, but viewer discretion is advised due to sensitive content.”
5. After Life
You may have seen this one trending recently. It’s such an important show about grief, loneliness and mental health. But the best part is that it also makes you laugh. A really strong comedic cast including Ricky Gervais, Diane Morgan, Joe Wilkinson and Roisin Conaty will have you in stitches one minute and tears the next. The show follows the story of a writer for a newspaper who struggles to come to terms with his wife’s death, pushing away all of those who come to his aid. Glenda, our Head of Marketing says: “I couldn’t stop watching, nice 25 minute episodes would leave me with a box of tissues to cry or laugh into.”
6. The Trial of the Chicago 7
If you’re in it for the long haul and not after a binge watch, but a full on film, Tom recommends The Trial of the Chicago 7 with star-studded cast Eddie Redmayne and Sacha Baron Cohen. The Democratic Party Convention in Chicago in 1968 was met with protests from activists led by Tom Hayden, Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin, leading to violent confrontations. An unfair trial follows with the accused represented by pro bono lawyers trying to defend the Yippies’ unorthodox defence strategies with the 7 accused clashing in their political philosophies. Tom says: “This one really stuck with me, really enjoyed it.”
So there we have it. We’re not recommending that you skive all day to get started on these top suggestions, but if you find yourself twiddling your thumbs after dinner or need something to pass the isolation time then these are for you.
Happy watching!
